VIRGIL ABLOH, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE POPSMOKE ALBUM COVER...PLEASE?
Pop Smoke’s posthumous new album is coming out this Friday, July 3. Today, Steven Victor—head of the Victor Victor label imprint who worked closely with Pop Smoke—has revealed the still-untitled new album’s artwork, which was designed, along with a limited-edition shirt, by the legendary Virgil Abloh.Victor said it was Pop Smoke’s specific request to have Abloh design the album cover.
After the art hit the internet, it wasn’t long before it was going viral with numerous fans and fellow Twitter users complaining about the artwork. Those who spoke about the artwork on social media, Victor tweeted, “MAKING A CHANGE,” and, “POP WOULD LISTEN TO HIS FANS!” – hinting to potential uphaul in the design of the infamous album art.
Not only however did fans complain about the album art, it was also revealed Virgil was dishonest with where he got the initial concept from – Instagram user: Ryder Ripps, who came forward and spoke about how Virgil had taken the chrome rose concept from him – this lead the frenzy on Twitter of other smaller brands coming forward with similar experiences.
On a more positive side of things however, the album’s tracklist has also been revealed: Future, DaBaby, Lil Baby, Quavo, Swae Lee, Roddy Ricch, 50 Cent, Tyga, Karol G, and more appear on the album. A feature from Lil Tjay may also be added to the album, Victor tweeted.
