Queen B and Thee Stallion just bought back the true definition of a remix and we LOVE to see it.
The remix is something we see a lot of and it’s something that’s been popular since the 1990’s, many crediting both Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige for merging hip-hop and rap with pop when they dominated the charts back in music’s beloved ‘golden era’. The likes of Marah Carey’s ‘Fantasy’ remix with Old Dirty Bastard birthed a whole wave of beloved rap and pop collaborations such as Jlo and Ja Rule’s ‘Im Real’, Christin Aguilera and Diddy’s ‘Tell Me’ or Destiny’s Child and Missy Elliot’s ‘Bootylicious’.
Speaking of Destiny’s child, this week we were all thoroughly fed with a collaboration from the daughter of Destiny herself, Beyoncé, where she jumped on Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘SAVAGE’. The remix, as anything Beyoncé touches, sent the internet on over drive, many fans praising Beyoncé’s referencing of ‘Demon Time’ and ‘OnlyFans’ which in turn has created a sudden surge of OnlyFans content creators, I mean Beyoncé’s impact right?
The best part of the remix however, other than the fact Miss Megan managed to bag collabs with Beyoncé and Nicki all before releasing her first album which we LOVE to see, it took us back to true definition of a remix. As opposed to just jumping on a verse and keeping the song the same melodically, Queen B and thee Stallion completely rearranged the track. Beyoncé blessed us with 3 verses, yes 3, and caressed the main hook by adding a simple sung ‘okay’ which to be honest…not to be dramatic…is probably the most powerful moment in music history.
Beyoncé also clapped back at rumours of potential plastic surgery which circulated the internet earlier this year after posting her new IVY PARK campaign. "Big B and that B stand for bands / If you wanna see some real ass, baby, here's your chance," she rapped, before adding, "Texas up in this thang, put you up on this game / Ivy Park on my frame / If you don't jump to put jeans on, baby, you don't feel my pain." – Sorry can you imagine being Jay Z and being the second-best rapper in the house?? Urgh. BEYONCE. GIVE. ME. A. BREAK.
Aside from the incredible remix, I think the entire internet is feeling a Kris Jenner watching-Kim-shoot-for-Playboy typa warmth towards Thee Stallion. Megan is still yet to release a debut album and has already collaborated with Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé in the space of a year and I don’t think anyone could deserve it more. Megan you’re doing amazing sweetie.
