2020 is a year not to be forgotten, it was only at the beginning of lockdown we were chatting to the alt-pop group, Lucia & The Best Boys, about the ‘new normal’, looking to the future and of course their critically acclaimed EP, ‘Eternity’. The record plays home to the iconic singles: ‘City Of Angels’ and ‘Good Girls Do Bad Things’, the latter being BBC Radio 1’s track of the week as well as picking up support from the station’s Vic Galloway, Radcliffe & Maconie on BBC 6Music and Radio X’s Jon Kennedy. It also made an impact featuring on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK, The Rock List, All New Rock, Hot New Bands, Student Union, Apple’s Breaking Alternative, Deezer’s Brand New UK, Indie Jukebox, soundtracked fashion brand Nasty Gal’s latest TV ad campaign and even getting airplay on Made In Chelsea.

The group have returned with a second offering, the suitably titled, ‘The State Of Things’, which fits perfectly considering the state of the world right now. The EP’s second single dropped this Friday, entitled, ‘Perfectly Untrue’, a perfectly alternative, bass-heavy pop record that features the same incredible instrumentals and fierce vocals we are used to hearing from the band. ‘Perfectly Untrue’ was the successor of the EP’s first track, ‘Let Go’, which dropped back in May in the peak of lockdown.

Front woman, Lucia Fairfull uses her signature vocal style, with passionate and dream-like vocals throughout the new track, her voice allowing the group to explore the more atmospheric and moodier tones of their new sound. Speaking about the new single, Lucia said, "Perfectly Untrue was written a couple of weeks after I wrote ‘Let Go’. This recording is in its original form, which Chris Greatti and myself powered on an all nighter till 4am, as I was leaving LA the next day. It’s funny to listen to them both back to back as it shows the many mixed emotions I was going through during heart-break, feeling strong and capable one minute, then distraught and confused the next. The only way through seemed to be to pretend that everything was fine or perfect whereas in reality it was Perfectly Untrue. I can definitely say now looking back that this is the worst solution ever, but also I know that it is just a coping mechanism that people use as escapism. When you are in a weird or dark headspace you see many versions of yourself that you didn’t even know existed. Perfectly Untrue’s "Happy Go Lucky" sound portrays the fake joy I pushed myself to feel in order to avoid the sad truth, which is displayed in the lyrics that are also coated in glitter and glamour - “dressed up in gold” and “dance until I die”.

Their new four-track EP ‘The State Of Things’ will be released on October 9th through Sweet Jane Recordings and will feature two more brand new tracks. Lucia & the Best Boys were announced as main support for Dream Wife on their 22-date UK and European tour in April-May 2021.
