Our favourite queer R'n'B pop god is back with the perfect track and visual to sum up self isolation and quarantine for all of us.
It is no understatement to say we are all struggling with lockdown right now; away from family and friends, unable to go to work and having our ‘normal’ lives completely disrupted.Whilst staying home is what is best for the world right now, it is of course still extremely challenging. The R’n’B meets pop upcomer, GESS, managed to capture all these emotions in his new music video, which was produced in quarantine, for the song ‘Palo Santo’.
GESS entered the music scene 2 years ago with his debut track, ‘Spilled Milk’, which has accumulated over 10k views on YouTube. It was only last week that the singer/songwriter dropped his EP entitled ‘Psyche’, which again translated perfectly the feelings many of us are feeling right now; loneliness, lust, longing and the craving for normality. The track ‘Palo Santo’ looks into the self-questioning and the battle between one and their inner demons.
The video was entirely shot, directed and edited by the artist, utilising whatever he had at home and the results were flawless. The video is a sultry, elusive and sexually charged visual, with a theme of darkness and despair. GESS also looks at toxic pass demons many people whilst in quarantine are potentially falling back on – media consumption, drugs and alcohol. “What if I fall back into all that I’ve grown from/take a pill and swallow like a Palo Santo” The artist sings, eluding at the battles many are facing whilst isolated.
GESS is proving to be one of the most exciting new comers, with a soulful and powerful voice and an incredible penmanship. It speaks volumes he also managed to produce a beautiful work of art whilst quarantined in isolation, showing he is a force to be reckoned with and were are all excited to see what the R’n’B pop star brings to the table next.
