IT IS ALMA'S WORLD AND WE ARE ALL JUST LUCKY TO BE HERE TO BE HONEST
JUNE 20TH 2020
It really is Alma’s world and were all just living in it tbh. Finnish pop singer Alma dropped her long-awaited debut album titled “Have You Seen Her?” For those who are not familiar with Alma, she broke through in 2013 when she was a contestant on the Finnish reality-television singing competition Idols. Two years later she featured on Finnish rapper Sini Sabotage’s song “Muuta ku mä,” which lead her to sign onto Universal Music Group in 2016. Alma released her first single called “Karma” which saw phenonmenal success making her one of the most exciting break through artists of that year. The same year she got signed along with many other singles since.
All within a year, ALMA signed to a major label, put out her first single "Karma" and had a top 20 hit on the UK charts with the earworm-y pop anthem "Chasing Highs." She quickly became an EDM go-to with producers like Felix Jaehn, Sub Focus and Martin Solveig all getting her as a featured vocalist for their own singles. ALMA's resume only grew from there, linking with Charli XCX and Tove Lo on back to back singles for Pop 2 and Blue Lips respectively. As a songwriter, she's notably penned tracks for Miley Cyrus (including the critically polarizing "Cattitude"), Matoma and Lindsay Lohan's musical comeback single, "Back to Me." Like I said, this is Alma’s world and were just lucky to be here.
ALMA's mostly incredible achievement to date of course, is the recent release of her debut album, Have U Seen Her?. With inflections of Lorde and M.I.A as well as definite touches of the collaborators she works with such as Miley and Charli, the album is an explosion of talent, creativity and new approaches to music. Overall the record is a warming, fun and feel good experience but the album also has its share of darker moments. "Mama" tackles themes of substance abuse, while "Loser" manages to take the feelings of self-loathing into something verging on unlikely empowerment.
As a star that shines as bright as her iconic hair, it is not hard to see why she is one of the most exciting upcoming artists in modern music, check out her latest releases below -
